Reverend Fr. James "Bill" Pike

 

 

September 7, 1951- July 23, 2009

     Fr. James "Bill" Pike was born to Lillian K. (Roeder) Pike and Robert V. Pike. He attended Mater Cleri Seminary, Bishop White Seminary, and Gonzaga University; graduating with a B.A. in Sociology in 1975. He attended graduate school at Gonzaga University and St. Thomas Theologate, studying counseling and theology. After working for the Washington State Dept. of Corrections for 22 years as a Community Corrections Officer, he retired on a medical disability in 2000. He joined the Malankara Orthodox Syrian Church in 1985. His Grace, Metropolitan Thomas Mar Makarios ordained him to the diaconate in 1988, and ordained him to the priesthood on September 17,1991.  Fr. James has the distinction of being the second non-Malayalee American-born man to he ordained as a priest in this church.  He served as associate pastor of St. Gregorios Malankara Orthodox Syrian Mission, Spokane, and served as vicar for St. Thomas Malanlkara Orthodox Syrian Church, Kent WA from 1996 to 2004.  In addition to his love for his family, friends, parishioners, and church activities, he had a lifelong love of fishing, hunting, and sports and participated in bowling leagues and shooting in pool leagues for many years.

 

He is survived by his wife Ginny, son & daughter-in-law, Joel & Sara, daughter, Katy, and grandchildren, Emily, Sylvia, and Jonathan. He is also survived hy his brother and sister-in-law, Deacon Gabriel (Robert) and Liz Pike; nieces Sarah, Megan, Becky, Abbey and nephew Isaac; His parents preceded him in death in 2008.
